E104 cards are broken
down into 3 different sets. All E104 cards are very hard to find. The
empty spaces in the checklists indicates that a card is not known (at
least to me) of that player/back combination. Even though 2 of the sets
consists of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh players it should be noted that
Nadja was a company based in St. Louis, Missouri.
Since
ALL E104 cards are very hard to find it is difficult to easily say set
1, 2 or 3 is any harder to find. If you have any card not listed above
please share it with your fellow collectors and send me a scan. I'd
be glad to include it. Send to: petecld@earthlink.net
E104.1 -
This set of 18 cards consists of all Philadelphia Athletics players.
They are all portraits and can be found with a "World's Champions
1910" tag line written over their heads along with an elephant
logo on the chest. Each player may exist with a blank back or with a
back that has a Nadja Caramel ad.
These card would
have been issued very late in the year 1910 or in 1911.
Since no cards
have been found with the "World's Champions 1910" line AND
a Nadja back it is a possibility that these cards with the tag line
were only distributed in the Philadelphia area. Why would a St. Louis
company make a special effort to advertise for the Philadelphia team?
This could also explain why when E104s are found, they are found with
a blank back, signaling that their distribution was wider. This is pure
speculation.
